What this does and does not model

This is a teaching model of RELATIVE plasma level: each dose is added instantly and decays by its half-life. It shows accumulation and washout correctly, but it is not a full pharmacokinetic simulation — it ignores absorption rate, distribution and individual variation, and the level is in arbitrary units, not a concentration. Animal or estimated half-lives are labelled as such.

How to read it

  • The curve is relative, not a concentration. It shows how the level rises and falls in proportion to a single dose — the shape, not an absolute number.
  • Steady state ≈ 4-5 half-lives. That is why a weekly compound keeps climbing for roughly a month before it plateaus, and why a missed dose matters more on a short half-life.
  • Washout ≈ 4-5 half-lives after the last dose. Useful when switching compounds or planning a break. Longer half-life, longer tail.
